Prediction of Persistent Post-concussive Symptoms in Young Children (COBRA (formerly Poppy))

The long-term goal of our research program is to develop evidence-based treatment pathways to improve outcomes of young children with mTBI. Our objective in the proposed study is to develop and validate a clinical prediction rule for persistent symptoms in young children presenting to the ED with mTBI. We will conduct a multi-site, prospective, observational cohort study of children ages 6 months up to 6 years presenting to the ED (or Urgent Care) within 48 hours of mTBI. Study sites will be assigned to one of two 18-month periods: Period 1 will be used to develop the clinical prediction rule, and Period 2 will validate it. Clinicians' assessment of risk for persistence of mTBI symptoms will be assessed across both observation periods. Participants will receive small payments on a ClinCard for each survey time point completed.
