Summary

The study design for this pilot trial mirrors the design that we used in the pilot trial. It is designed and powered to evaluate the effect of bolus IVMg on hospitalization, informed and optimized using the data gathered in the pilot. The trial will be a prospective double-blind placebo-controlled trial of children 2-17 years of age with severe acute asthma at eight or more PECARN sites identified as having local clinical equipoise to randomize children according to study procedures.
